Tottenham 3-1 Bournemouth: Player ratings as Spurs end 2023 with win

Image
FROM TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR STADIUM - Tottenham moved to within three points of the Premier League summit after beating Bournemouth 3-1 on New Year's Eve. The Travel ling Cherries made life extremely difficult for Spurs throughout on a wet and windy afternoon in north London but the hosts rallied to claim the three points. Defeat means Bournemouth missed the chance to move level on points with Chelsea but will return to the south coast proud of their efforts. How the game unfolded Tottenham went close to finding the net in the opening 90 seconds when Brennan Johnson's cross was blazed over from close range by an unmarked Son Heung-min, though a late offside flag was raised. Bournemouth spurned a great chance of their own soon after when Dango Ouattara's cross found Dominic Solanke, who was put off just enough by Ben Davies and his header bounced downwards into Guglielmo Vicario's grasp. With just under ten minutes on the clock, Spurs went in front. Neto's poor pass from...

Liverpool vs Newcastle - Premier League: TV channel, team news, lineups and prediction

Liverpool will kick off 2024 with a bang when they welcome Newcastle United to Anfield on New Year's Day. The Reds have been superb in the first half of the season, still only having lost once in the Premier League . After successive league draws with Manchester United and title rivals Arsenal, Jurgen Klopp's side got back to winning ways on Boxing Day after beating Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor. Meanwhile, things look much gloomier for Newcastle. The Magpies have lost six of their last seven matches in all competitions and have suffered back-to-back league defeats to Luton Town and Nottingham Forest. Huawei forecasts 9% revenue growth in 2023 as smartphones surge

Chinese tech giant Huawei Technologies expects to report revenue exceeding 700 billion yuan ($98.5 billion) for 2023, according to comments from rotating chairman Ken Hu in an internal new year message seen by Reuters. The figure indicates around 9% year-over-year revenue growth from the 642.3 billion yuan reported in 2022. The forecast offers further evidence that Huawei is rebounding after U.S. sanctions starting in 2019 crippled some of its business lines by restricting access to critical global technologies such as advanced chips. In a surprising move in August, Huawei launched its Mate60 series of smartphones, which are believed to be powered by a domestically developed chipset. The release was widely viewed as marking Huawei's comeback into the high-end smartphone market after years of struggling under US sanctions. Huawei's smartphone shipments surged 83% in October year-on-year, helping the overall Chinese smartphone market to grow 1...

Humanoid robots in space: the next frontier

Standing at 6 feet 2 inches (188 centimeters) tall and weighing 300 pounds (136 kilograms), NASA's humanoid robot Valkyrie is an imposing figure. Valkyrie, named after a female figure in Norse mythology and being tested at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, is designed to operate in "degraded or damaged human-engineered environments," like areas hit by natural disasters, according to NASA. But robots like her could also one day operate in space. A humanoid robot resembles a person, typically with a torso, head, two arms and two legs. Engineers believe with the right software, humanoid robots will eventually be able to function similarly to humans and use the same tools and equipment. NASA Dexterous Robotics Team Leader Shaun Azimi said humanoid robots in space could potentially handle risky tasks like cleaning solar panels or inspecting malfunctioning equipment outside the space craft so astronauts can prioritize exploration and discovery. "We'r...

Tosin Adarabioyo is expected to leave Fulham ahead of the expiry of his contract in the summer, with Tottenham Hotspur and Monaco set to fight for his signature, sources have confirmed to 90min . Adarabioyo's deal is up at the end of June 2024 and Fulham are trying to persuade him to sign fresh terms at Craven Cottage, but 90min understands they are not close to an agreement and he is in line to leave the club. How Nice fared in first years of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS ownership

Shortly after acquiring OGC Nice in the summer of 2019, INEOS CEO Sir Jim Ratcliffe lambasted the failings of Manchester United. "United have spent an immense amount since [Sir Alex] Ferguson left and been poor, to put it mildly. Shockingly poor, to be honest," Ratcliffe sniffed. "We have a different approach here [at Nice] to be moderately intelligent about it." Four years on, Ratcliffe has acquired a minority but i NFL uential stake in a club that he claimed to "have lost the plot". Image
Even though Bluesky is still an invite-only app and a decentralised alternative to Twitter and Mastodon, users won't have to be logged in to see posts on the platform, according to Bluesky CEO Jay Graber. In a blog post, Graber explained that Bluesky users can still opt to not have their posts displayed to others not logged in to their account with a toggle. He notes that “other apps may not honor this request” and that the toggle won't make your account private. He added that “ posts on Bluesky have always been public via developer tooling and other apps.” Read: Apple explores AI deals with news publishers “Bluesky is an open and public network,” Bluesky says in a note under the toggle on the platform. “This setting only limits the visibility of your content on the Bluesky app and website, and other apps may not respect this setting.” The Twitter competitor has also redesigned its logo to a butterfly from a blue sky w...

US proposes more limits on making money off children's data

WASHINGTON: Big tech companies, like YouTube owner Alphabet among many others, would face further limits on how they use children 's data to beef up profits under a proposal put out by the Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday. The FTC said in a notice of proposed rule-making that it was considering changing the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule to put more restrictions on when and how companies could monetize children 's data. It would also limit how companies can use notifications to nudge children to stay online. The rule affects companies which collect personal information about users under age 13. "Kids must be able to play and learn online without being endlessly tracked by companies looking to hoard and monetize their personal data," said FTC Chair Lina Khan in a statement. "The proposed changes to COPPA are much-needed, especially in an era where online tools are essential for navigating daily life." Since many platforms and...
