PM hints at ‘regulating’ social media in future

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Friday highlighted concerns about social media , indicating plans for regulations to curb its alleged misuse. In an interview with a private TV channel, the premier said that the previous governments worked to control negative aspects of social media and in future , a “national firewall” through the use of Technology would be created to subdue the negative tendencies of social media . Reflecting on the May 9 events, Kakar criticised the elements involved, clarifying that his government did not target any specific political party. Germany, France and Italy reach agreement on future AI regulation

TEXAS, US:  An agreement on how artificial intelligence should be regulated in the future has been reached by Germany, France and Italy, according to a joint paper seen by Reuters, which is expected to accelerate negotiations at the European level. The three governments are in favour of binding voluntary commitments for both large and small AI providers in the European Union. The European Commission, the European Parliament and the EU Council are currently negotiating how the bloc should position itself in this new field. The Parliament presented an "AI Act" in June, with the aim of averting safety risks from AI applications and avoiding discriminatory effects, but without slowing down the innovative power of this new Technology in Europe. AI robots could play future role as companions in care homes

GENEVA:  Nadine, a social robot powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) with human-like gestures and expressions, could have an important future role to play in tending to the sick and elderly, according to a professor who helped invent it. Nadia Magnenat Thalmann, a robot expert from the University of Geneva, who served as the model for Nadine's dark brown eyes and auburn hair, said Nadine and robots like it could prove more effective than human carers. "She (Nadine) has time 24 hours a day. The others have no time," Thalmann said. She was speaking on the sidelines of a conference organised by the International Telecommunication Union in Geneva to make the case for AI and robots helping to reach global goals, such as health.
