The US Space Force said on Monday that Elon Musk's SpaceX was granted approval to lease a second rocket launch complex at a military base in California, setting the space company up for its fifth launch site in the United States. Under the lease, SpaceX will launch its workhorse Falcon rocket s from Space Launch Complex-6 at Vandenberg Space Force Base, a Military launch site north of Los Angeles where the space company operates another launch pad. It has two others in Florida and its private Starbase site in south Texas. A Monday night Space Force statement said a letter of support for the decision was signed on Friday by Space Launch Delta 30 commander Col. Rob Long. The statement did not mention a duration of SpaceX's lease. LOS ANGELES:  A SpaceX rocket blasted off early on Friday carrying a US-French satellite designed to conduct an unprecedented global survey of Earth's surface waters, a mission expected to shed new light on the mechanics and consequences of climate change. The Falcon 9 booster owned and operated by Elon Musk's commercial rocket company lit up the predawn sky along California's coast as it roared off its launch pad at the Vandenberg US Space Force Base, about 160 miles (260 km) northwest of Los Angeles. The liftoff, directed by NASA, was shown live on a US space agency webcast. The Falcon 9's upper stage, carrying the satellite, reached orbit within nine minutes. Moments earlier, the reusable lower stage separated from the rocket and flew itself back to Earth, unleashing sonic booms before slowing to a gentle landing at the base. NASA has released aerial footage of its most potent mega rocket 's flight to the moon, which was launched on November 16th. The agency had recently launched its next-generation 32-story rocket toward the moon. The rocket is said to be the most powerful operational one till date. The released 32-second  footage shows the rocket launch from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. As per the video, two of the largest solid boosters blast away from the rest of the rocket to provide it with the necessary thrust. BENGALURU: The startup behind India's first private space launch plans to put a satellite into orbit in 2023 and expects to be able to do so at half of the cost of established launch companies, the founders of Skyroot Aerospace told Reuters in an interview. The Hyderabad-based company , backed by Singapore's sovereign wealth fund, GIC, says the $68 million it has raised will fund its next two launches. Skyroot has been in contact with more than 400 potential customers, it says. Thousands of small satellite launches are planned in coming years as companies build out networks to deliver broadband services like SpaceX's Starlink and to power applications like tracking supply chains or monitoring offshore oil rigs. Skyroot faces both established and up-and-coming rocket launch rivals that also promise to bring down costs.
