Urgent warning over $1800 myGov ‘refund’ scam: ‘Talk about disgusting’
Millions of Australians are being warned over a new text message scam targeting those waiting for “income returns”. The phishing scam claims to be from myGov, and alerts the recipient their “income return” has been placed on hold, prompting the person to take action in order to receive their money. The message read: “myGov: Your income return of $1800 .34 could not be processed due to insufficient information supplied please update immediately”, along with a hyperlink. “Apparently a scam reaching out to those on Centrelink,” the woman said. “Note; myGov or Centrelink will not contact you this way or from a mobile phone number.” State Labor MP Jenny Aitchison also shared an email she received to social media which revealed she too had been target...
