Twitter checkmark to be free for 10,000 most-followed companies

Microblogging platform Twitter will be giving free checkmarks to the top 500 advertisers and the 10,000 most followed companies.

Twitter is making multiple changes to its verification process. The current procedure for verification will be changing in the month of April.

As per the new plan, companies will have to pay $1000 per month to retain their checkmark. However, there is an exception for the top 500 advertisers and the 10,000 most followed companies.

The strategy comes as a move to combat the effect of the prices on the Twitter community.

Considering how the platform responded to individual checkmarks with fake accounts and much more, the changes for companies are also raising concerns in this regard.
