Logan family pleads for cat’s return after brazen theft of pet posted to TikTok

A Queensland family has made a tearful plea for the return of their beloved cat, after footage of the Pet’s brazen theft was posted to social media.

The footage shows Garfield being taken from his home in Healthwood, Logan, and put into the boot of a car one night last week.

“Better hide your cats ... back at it again,” a caption in the TikTok video, obtained by 7NEWS, shows.

An earlier video by the same TikTok account shows a person taking another cat in broad daylight.

“F*** I love kidnapping cats,” a caption reads.

During both incidents, laughter can be heard in the background.

Garfield’s owner Steph Sione has concerns for her pet’s welfare, demanding the thieves “tell us where he is”.

“The look on his face ... I just want him home,” she told 7NEWS, through tears.

“It was heartbreaking. That’s my baby.

“He didn’t do anything to be manhandled the way he was.”

Sione said the cat thieves appear to be youths.

“Some kids think it’s funny to go around stealing people’s pets. Why are you doing this?” she said.

“People work hard for their things. People take care of their animals.

“And these kids think they can come and take it — for what?

“Something has to do done about this.”

New 'petabit-scale' optical disc can store as much information as 15,000 DVDs

Scientists have developed a new type of optical disc that can increase information storage capacity to the "petabit" level — 125 terabytes of data, or the combined storage capacity of about 15,000 DVDs.  Optical discs, such as DVDs and Blu-ray discs, are durable and inexpensive. A standard single-layer Blu-ray disc can store 25 gigabytes. By comparison, some USB flash drives can store 1TB, and hard disk drives (HDDs) can hold up to 16TB.
