Twitter asks users of premium service for photo of government-issued ID to verify account

Twitter, now known as X, appears to be working on its verification method for premium users, with the app asking for a government-issued ID and a live photo to verify accounts.

Blue checkmarks are available to those who pay for X Premium, formerly Twitter Blue, a subscription service which also offers users a host of special features including the ability to edit posts, write longer posts and undo posts.

Before tech magnate Elon Musk acquired the platform, verification was given out to users in media and government, or those at heightened risk of impersonation.
