Urgent warning over bizarre act on Melbourne road

A Melbourne man who fears he and a friend were caught up in a bizarre attempted carjacking is urgently warning other motorists to be aware.

Daniel Borghesi shared terrifying dashcam footage showing a man jump in front of his friend’s car along Hoddle St, Abbotsford about 4.30am last Thursday.

In the eerie footage, captured on his friend’s Tesla cameras, the man on the road then turns on a flashlight and shines it directly at the driver.

When the driver slows down and tries to swerve around the man, he appears to take a swipe at the vehicle - only narrowly missing it.

Borghesi told 7NEWS.com.au the whole ordeal “really creeped us out”.

“His action was so methodical and the torch he shone at us was so powerful,” he said.

“We had no idea what he was trying to do or accomplish.”

Borghesi said initially they believed it was a carjacking attempt, however, they also wondered whether it could have been a robbery attempt or even some sort of insurance scam.

“It’s hard to know, but either way it was very weird and worrying so close to home,” he said.

“But my advice is, whatever you do, just don’t stop - go around, do a U-turn, whatever you have to do. It’s not worth risking it.”

The terrifying footage was posted to Borghesi’s TikTok account earlier this week, amassing more than 1.2 million views from other confused motorists.

“Always drive with your doors locked and never stop,” one person said.

“Yes, I had someone try to pull me over and open my door but luckily it was locked, this happened in Melbourne as well,” another added.

Victoria Police told 7NEWS.com.au officers responded to a triple-0 call on December 1 saying a man with a torch was standing on the road in Abbotsford.

“Police were told a man shone a torch at a vehicle on Langridge St just before 4.30am,” police said.

“Officers attended and conducted patrols of the area for the male however no one matching the description was located.”

Police added if anyone feels threatened or is ever in a situation where they feel in danger, they should call triple-0.
